Telenor
Simon Burrill’s latest ad was shot with Savage for Telenor Denmark, for their big campaign for the new 4g network. It was filmed entirely on a sound stage in Prague, in one shot. It’s currently being screened in cinema's and on TV across Denmark. Enjoy!
‘Aftermaths’
Five nights gone wrong. Very Wrong. Habana Director, Federico Urdaneta and Dj Roman come up with a week of teasers for his debut album. The result is quietly alarming.
Suzi Yoonessi
We'd like to welcome the magnificent Suzi Yoonessi to the Habana rostrum. Suzi has the midas touch. Her films have won her awards and accolades around the world and are a delicious cocktail of subtle human behaviour observations, immaculate storytelling and beautifully lean imagery. She is the bomb and Habana Creative are delighted to be representing her in the UK.
Colours
Siblings are a quirky 4piece band that are so refreshingly obsessed about their music that they haven’t given any thought about their image. We talked about making a promo for their latest single “Colours” and the conversation turned to wardrobe styling. Met by a blank look it sparked an idea that the promo should be one giant wardrobe make over. Giant it was, our wunder stylist Miss Tara Sugar nearly had a nervous breakdown. See why.
Sweaty Betty Spring Summer 2013
The new Spring Summer 2013 branding film for Sweaty Betty is the most experimental to date. Inspired by a wacky image on the new collections mood board, Handrolled decided to create all our colour effects in camera using a magnifying glass, broken bits of coloured plastic and coloured filters to take the viewer along a somewhat out-worldly journey. The music is by the fabulous Natalie Cook. Enjoy the ride.
Sightings and Sightseeings
Brand new animations from Alex Budovsky for the new iPhone Pop app. They are used as individual stand alone vignettes that appear with each text you receive on your smart phone but we edited them together for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.

Martin Luchsinger
Habana is very excited to announce the latest signing of Martin Luschinger, AKA Luschi, to our roster of directors. Martin learned his craft on the snowboarding slopes of Switzerland directing insane snowboarding films and then injected his own unique attention to detail, style and storytelling to make some of the most arresting advertising films to come out of Zurich. He's the bomb!
Picard ‘Vegetables’
Another fun experiential live project for Handrolled for the launch of a new baby food range for French Picard Supermarkets. Rapp Paris and Handrolled had the idea of filling a playground with toy vegetables and children. We shot this on a rare heatwave day in Brussels this summer and it felt like Cape Town. The online spot has clocked just under a million youtube clicks to date (check Picard doudou on youtube).
Pizza Express ‘Don’t Start Without You’
Hand Rolled have moved on from cigar to pizza rolling! Who would have thought those skills were transferable. This film was made with Smoke & Mirrors for Adam & Eve DDB and was used on all sorts of platforms from YouTube to pre-rolls to the tube escalator itself. Its makes us want a high carb high fat blow out, we hope it does for you.
The Irish Times ‘The Story of Why?’
Another visual extravaganza from Simon Burrill, put best in his own words.
“The film is a stream of brief scenes, covering the topical bases the Irish Times touches in its constant quest to investigate the 'whys' behind events. We aimed to create multiple mini-worlds with different film styles, allowing the character's performance to be a connecting thread. The scenes were intended to evoke current Irish and World issues - environment, religion, riots, sports, nods to gay rights - without being heavy-handed and overt, so it isn't tied to one moment in time.”
A thought provoking fantastic film we're sure you'll all agree.
ANA ‘Enjoy More’
Our friends at Cuba London approached us to make an online film for their client ANA. The idea was to show that you get more, actually 17% more, in premium economy than economy class. The problem was that we didnt have a plane or the all important bigger seat! Hand Rolled worked with Cuba to develop the idea into an animated piece. Shooting live action for the characters silhouettes and using beautifully illustrated animation to build the environment, the result is a lovely film that demonstrates the idea whilst leaving you feeling all warm and cosy inside.
Sweaty Betty ‘AW 2012’
A new film for Sweaty Betty Autumn/ Winter collection 2012 from Handrolled. Capturing the spirit of the brand on a rain swept Scottish moor. Bootiful.
Raw Craft ‘Fabien Capello’
As part of the "Raw Craft" exhibition, the Crafts Council commissioned Federico Urdaneta to create 8 films about some of the makers behind the pieces shown. Each one of the films reflects the different approaches to craftsmanship adopted by these young designers and were shown at the Saatchi Gallery in London as part of the exhibition. In keeping with the auteur premise behind the show, the music was composed by Federico as well.
Shaw ‘Devices’
Seeing it as an opportunity for creating a live moving image installation rather than a straightforward TV spot, with BBDO Toronto, Hand Rolled embarked on a mission to create a live mechanical and digital installation of devices that altogether would make up something unique and quite beautiful.
To prove this actually worked it was made for real setting up 13 devices and two Shaw modems in two separate apartments in Vancouver, one to send and one to receive. The overall effect was homemade and tangible and charming; we couldn’t make this film any other way it had to be real.
Metro ‘La Révélation’
Metro France changed the paper format from large to small and they wanted to announce this with a splash. A 12 x 9 metre newspaper was folded into a 7 x 3 metre paper boat carried down to the canal St Martin and floated off on the water to drift off into the horizon.
Hand Rolled captured this live event in the streets of Paris. Guiness book of records were invited down to measure the newspaper as it was supposedly the largest single sheet genuine paper ever printed. Over 550.000 hits in one day on WhatTv. Blogged, discussed on dozens of industry websites, news sites and blogs. A genuine viral campaign
Joop Homme ‘Dark’
Habana was commissioned by FX to create a brand new sponsorship campaign for their long running sponsors Joop Homme. The brief was to create a powerful campaign that would show off the premium brand in a playful and mischievous way so we created a story of lust and desire through a voyeuristic lens. The campaign will run round the clock on FX throughout 2012.
Starbucks ‘Barista’
Blast Radius asked us to make a short documentary portrait of a Starbucks barista, the idea was to get a passionate insight into the coffee making process and what it means to him. Federico Urdenata, on his Habana debut, directed the film and we're sure you'll agree its a highly engaging piece of online content.
Google ‘Photographer’
Google France wanted to open pop up shops in public spaces to promote a new instant business website service. With Full Six agency in Paris, Hand Rolled decided to be as literal about the idea as possible. A folding shop was built out of cardboard and ‘Pop’ the shop appeared wherever they wanted instantly. Aimed at small businesses the campaign registered 1.3 million YouTube hits in a fortnight. Et voila.
Conrad ‘Scarecrow’
Another award for Hand Rolled and their films for Conrad Electronics, a silver this time at the London International Awards. Filmed over 3 days around Berlin, the films followed the exploits of our heroes as they put their techno geek minds to the test building weird and wonderful contraptions with components bought from the store.
Fox ‘MIni Cab’
Hand Rolled have picked up a Bronze for Best Sponsorship at the Promax 2011 Awards. Fox commissioned us to write and direct 8 spots helping small businesses get a little exposure they could never normally afford. A real life approach was employed to promote each small business and various advertisers such as TomTom. Here is one of our favourites from the campaign.
